Takeshi Saji
From his forge in the heart of Takefu Knife Village, Takeshi Saji continues to produce some of the most visually striking and technically masterful knives in Japan. Now in his seventies, Saji-san remains one of the most dynamic and prolific blacksmiths working today — blending traditional forging techniques with bold, contemporary design.
He works across a wide spectrum of steels, from classic Japanese carbon steels to advanced stainless alloys like R2 and VG10. His signature Damascus finishes — including Rainbow, Diamond, and Black Nickel — are unmistakable, and are often paired with an eclectic range of handle styles that reflect both innovation and deep respect for materials.
Takeshi Saji’s knives are true functional artworks — forged with character, built for performance, and deeply rooted in decades of skill and passion.

Knife Information
Takeshi Saji has perhaps one of the widest ranges of blade finishes and stylistic creations of any blacksmith in Japan. He works with all Japanese Carbon Steels, as well as R2, VG10, and others. He crafts his own Damascus in Rainbow, Diamond, and Black Nickel finishes, and fits a wide range of handle types. He can truly do it all, and all at the ripe young age of 73. To this day he produces functional works of art out of the Takefu Knife Village in Japan, surrounded by other like-minded craftsman.
Best paired with a 22cm felt lined blade guard and a 1000/6000 whetstone
